Picnic and Percussion in the Park was a great success. Nineteen drummers came and played together. Kuno lead the group. We even had an audience, some even joined in drumming. We ended with a picnic. We will try to schedule another time in the coming weeks.
A small group of us meet at The Biscuit Eater to bring awareness to the plight of children in Africa under the tyranny of Joseph Kony, the head of the Ugandan guerrilla group. Though I have reservations concerning the KONY 2012 organization’s use of funds, the cause deserves a broader reach. We met together to beat our drums and share an afternoon in the sun.
Twenty-five drummers showed up for the Djembe (West African Drum) workshop lead by Kadijah meet at the Lunenburg Cultural Center to play West African rhythms. Beginners and experienced players played together for two hours and learned two traditional West African rhythms. After the workshop we met at our house for a drum circle and others arrived with didgeridoo, cajon, bodhran, and other traditional drums. We played together for another four hours.
